Environment
|
MANUFACTURING PROCESS: Norco’s manufacturing equipment enables World Health Organization emissions standards to be met and maintained. Emissions are monitored regularly by the Government’s environmental control body to ensure compliance. In addition:
| • |
Unfired production clay is reground into subsequent product batches. |
| • |
No waste water results from the manufacturing process. |
| • |
Heat given off from the kilns is recovered and re-used as a heat source for the dryers. |
| • |
All fired ware which is not packaged as 1st quality product is re-ground, categorized by color, and becomes an integral ingredient for subsequent product batches. |
| • |
Cartons contain the highest % of recycled material available. All cartons are recyclable. |
INDOOR AIR QUALITY: Norco’s products can be installed, and sealed if required, with inert products providing air quality advantages during and after installation.
Norco quarry tile is neither an original source nor a vessel for absorbed volatile organic chemicals.
Norco products will neither contribute to the growth of mold and bacteria nor house dust mites and other Acari. Floor coverings make up a large percentage of surface space in a building, and a Norco quarry tile floor, when properly installed and maintained, will help contribute to a healthy work and living environment.
Norco products tile can be cleaned using non-toxic, water-based cleaners.
LIFE CYCLE: Quarry Tile floor, paving and wall tile products are some of the longest lasting products available. A recent study conducted by the Tile Council of North America found quarry tile to be the best value among competing floor covering products based specifically on the price and longevity of the product.
"Cradle to Grave" is fast becoming the standard by which the sustainability of building products is measured. This concept puts focus on the entire life cycle of a product. Norco quarry tile is an excellent cradle to grave product because it is mined at a close proximity to the manufacturing site, it can last for decades, and even centuries, and it can be recycled in numerous ways with no negative impact to the environment at the end of its life cycle. |
